Cohiba Talisman Limited Edition 2017

The Cohiba Talisman Limited Edition 2017 is an exceptionally rare and highly sought-after Cuban cigar, presented here in its original varnished slide lid box of 10 cigars.

Created as one of Habanos' prestigious Edición Limitada releases for 2017, the Talisman introduced an entirely new vitola to the Habanos portfolio. Measuring an imposing 6 1/8" x 54 and finished with an elegant pigtail, it combines substantial proportions with the unmistakable character and refinement of Cohiba.

The cigar was developed and produced at the legendary El Laguito factory in Havana, the historic home of Cohiba. Its filler, binder and wrapper tobaccos were specially selected from Cuba's celebrated Vuelta Abajo region, with the leaves used for this Limited Edition aged for at least two years before production.

Now approaching a decade since its original release, an intact box represents considerably more than an opportunity to experience a discontinued Cohiba. It is an increasingly collectable piece from one of the most significant Limited Edition releases of the modern Cohiba era.

Flavour Profile

The Cohiba Talisman delivers a complex medium-to-full-bodied profile built around the distinctive aromatic character associated with Cohiba's Línea Clásica.

Expect cedar and rich wood at the core, complemented by coffee, roasted nuts and earth. Creamier characteristics develop alongside cocoa and natural tobacco sweetness, while citrus, herbs and measured pepper provide contrast and freshness.

With substantial ageing now behind the original 2017 release, the attraction lies not simply in strength but in the opportunity for its individual components to have developed greater integration and maturity.

Its generous 54 ring gauge also gives the blend considerable room to evolve, producing dense, aromatic smoke and allowing its richer woody, roasted and sweeter characteristics to develop gradually.

Construction and Smoking Experience

At 6 1/8" with a substantial 54 ring gauge, the Cohiba Talisman is immediately imposing.

Each cigar is entirely handmade with long-filler tobacco and distinguished by the elegant pigtail at its head. Habanos specifically highlighted this finishing detail when introducing the cigar in 2017.

The large format encourages an unhurried smoking experience. Allow approximately 60 to 90 minutes to fully appreciate the development of the blend, particularly with examples that have benefited from years of careful maturation.

The Talisman comes in varnished slide-lid boxes containing just 10 cigars, making the complete box an especially desirable presentation for collectors.

A Significant Cohiba Limited Edition

The historical importance of the Talisman is central to its appeal.

Habanos and Hunters & Frankau chose London for its world launch, unveiling the cigar at the Corinthia Hotel on 7 November 2017. The occasion attracted international distributors, La Casa del Habano representatives and collectors, with the first box from the El Laguito production line auctioned to raise funds for victims of Hurricane Irma in Cuba.

Demand subsequently proved exceptional. In 2019, Habanos announced an additional limited quantity of the Cohiba Talisman using tobacco from the same harvest as the original Limited Edition, again with at least two years of ageing. Those later boxes were marked with their corresponding 2019 production date while retaining the 2017 Limited Edition presentation.

Created in 1966, Cohiba occupies a unique position at the pinnacle of the Habanos portfolio. Originally produced in very limited quantities, the brand was initially reserved for government use and diplomatic gifts before becoming commercially available in 1982.
